Our
annual Music Competition is conceived
as an effort to acknowledge budding
musical talents. Through this significant
event, we seek to create a platform
for constructive intelligent musical
interaction among students. Competitors
will be able to pit their skills against
one another in terms of instrumental
technique, musicality and stylistic
awareness, presentation and music communication
skills. They are given a chance to display
their musical prowess and learn from
one another at the same time. Apart
from the conventional Piano Competition
(elementary, intermediate, higher intermediate
and advanced categories), other instruments
like the keyboard, guitar, violin also
take centre-stage.
Our highly anticipated prestigious
event of the year was once again held
at Woodlands Civic Centre Regional
Library Auditorium on 17th March 2007.
It is heartening to note that response
and participation rate from our talented
students have been increasingly tremendously
over the years. This year, the competition
was split into two sessions to accommodate
our 85 finalists selected out of more
than 300 hopefuls who were auditioned
in the preliminary rounds held over
2 weekends. Distinguished judges and
members of the audience were touched
by the dedication and intense hard
work that finalists had put in for
this competition. Every performance
was perfectly staged and presented
with such grace that thunderous applause
was awarded to every finalist over
and over again. We are proud of our
students for achieving yet another
peak of excellence in performing standards
and musicianship. Well done!
The pressure to excel is, without
a doubt, present in any competition.
Nevertheless, winning should not be
the top priority in music. Instead,
this should be a time for self-reflection
and humble interaction. On that day,
all finalists took home valuable lessons.
Through mutual feed-back and encouragement,
everybody gained ideas and knowledge
beneficial to their musical experiences.
