We believe an awareness of musicianship theory enriches music performance, listening, and understanding. Our Guitar Theory Course complements instruction in guitar performance by using elements of practical guitar to illustrate the fundamental components that are heard or presented in a score. The course progressively covers topics like note names, notation, key signatures, rhythm, scale structures, and chords. By the end of the course, students should be able to read and write musical notation, and identify elements of melody and harmony. The course builds a strong foundation for more advanced studies in musical theory.
